Well here we are in Dubai. Been here two days now and we've been busing around almost everywhere here. The flight in wasn't too bad until towards the end when we we're just too tired. Everything went pretty smoothly except the taxi driver didn't know where the hotel was and couldn't speak much english. Fun fun fun!

Day 1 we purchased a bus ticket which lasts 24 hours and takes you to all the major sites in Dubai. You can get off wherever you want and buses always come within 30 minutes of each other. Good way to see the city. Unfortunately it had been raining here for the past 4 days before we arrived and as a result the city was extremely dusty. As in there is a dust haze everywhere which makes it hard to see more than about 1km. Still it is a very impressive city. Everywhere you look you can see constuction sites somewhere. Seems the recession has hit here pretty hard too though coz there is never anyone working on these building sites. We got to see all the major buildings including the huge 7 star hotel on the waterfront. Impressive =) We also stopped at some malls to check them out. They are rediculously huge compared to what we have in New Zealand. And also very clean.

Day 2 we continued with our 24hr ticket and went to see the Dubai museum and also stopped at the Gold Souk which is the marketplace for gold. Be warned and prepare to say NO as much as you can ;) They are big bargainers though and we picked up a few little treats. We will look into this more when we pass back through in May. After touring around the city for 2 days we took it easy for the afternoon and relaxed/dozed back at the hotel which is a very nice one.

So after 2 days here we've learned a few things about the city. There seem to be no road rules and what Top Gear said was true. If you can drive here without having accidents you can consider yourself a pretty decent driver. Its insane. You need to also agree on a taxi fare with most taxi's before you go to your destination. People here are pretty friendly too. Funnily enough it was NZ and Ausi airport that were the worst ;) Rude buggers!

Today is our last day here. We check out of the hotel this arvo but we dont actually get on the flight to London till 2am tomorrow morning. Yay? So we've booked ourselves a Safari trip today from 3pm to 10pm. Includes 4 wheel driving through some huge sand dunes in the desert, camel riding, bbq in the desert, amongst other things. Should be fun and should leave us very tired so we welcome some much needed sleep on the 8 hour plane ride.

Thats enough for now. Will write again from London probably. Hope everyone is well and know that we're safe and doing well. Cant post any photos from here so will have to do that in London as well, but we have plenty so far.

Till next time.. ! =)
